This autumn, Battiti offers different ways to explore taiko and music together.
Whether you are completely new to taiko, already have some experience, or would like to take your musical journey towards performance, you can find a place in the Battiti community.
From structured weekly classes to creative collaborations and performance opportunities, the Autumn 2026 programme offers a journey from learning to creating and, for those who are ready, performing.
Taiko Lab – 10-session course

Participants who want to follow a structured course and commit to regular practice. Includes two catch-up sessions.

Taiko Lab (course)
This autumn TaikoLab is a structured 10-session course for anyone who would like to learn and develop their taiko skills in a supportive group environment. Two extra catch-up sessions will be organised in December, which are meant to provide flexibility for participants who need to recover a missed lesson. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend one of the regular sessions, please let me know as early as possible so that we can agree in advance which December session you will attend instead.
Throughout the course, we work on technique, rhythm, coordination, musicality, and ensemble playing. We learn pieces together and gradually develop the confidence to play as part of a group.

Cost Course: €190.00
All sessions take place at a music studio in Strijp-s, Eindhoven.
Important: Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before the start of the session, so we can start on time.
Please note:
Catch-up sessions must be agreed upon in advance.
Missed sessions can only be recovered during the December catch-up dates.
Missed sessions cannot be transferred to the January courses.

Cancellations made within 24 hours before the start of a lesson are considered attended sessions and cannot be refunded or rescheduled.
Why a 10-session course?
Learning taiko is a journey.
When everyone in the group starts the course together and progresses together, we can develop more complex rhythms, musical interaction, and ensemble pieces.
Join a full course from the start allows the group to maintain a consistent learning pace and gives everyone the opportunity to progress together.
For people who would like to try taiko before committing to a full course, or who prefer to join occasionally, dedicated TaikoLab single sessions will be organised separately. Check below for more details.
TaikoLab – Single Sessions
A 40-minute introduction to taiko for those who would like to try it out, learn new rhythms, or join occasionally without committing to the full 10-session course.
These sessions are especially suitable for people who are curious about taiko but do not yet feel ready to enrol in a full course, as well as those who cannot commit to regular weekly participation.
No previous experience is required. Each session offers a playful introduction to taiko drumming and group music-making, and everyone is welcome.

From September 2026, TaikoLab Single Sessions will alternate with Your Song – Free Flow Rhythms.

your Song - Free flow rhythms
Discover rhythm through the music you already know.
Have you ever found yourself tapping your fingers, moving your feet, or singing along when your favourite song comes on?
Your Song – Free Flow Rhythms starts from that natural connection we already have with music.
In these playful group sessions, we explore rhythmic patterns inspired by well-known songs and discover how they can be played using taiko and other percussion instruments.
You don’t need to be an experienced musician. You don’t need to read music. You simply need to be curious and willing to play.
You can listen, play, move, and sing along with music you already know while discovering new rhythms and instruments together with others.
More than taiko
Your Song – Free Flow Rhythms is a playful introduction to the idea of making music with multiple instruments.
During the sessions, we may use:
Taiko
Percussion instruments
Body percussion
Rhythm instruments
Voice and singing
Music from different genres
The sessions are a small-scale introduction to the creative approach explored in Taiko Fusion.
You will start to experience what happens when different instruments and musical voices come together: how to listen to one another, find your place in the music, and create something together.
What to expect
During each session, we may:
Discover rhythmic patterns inspired by well-known songs
Learn to play taiko and other percussion instruments
Play along with familiar music
Experiment with different rhythms and instruments
Sing along to songs you know
Combine different rhythmic patterns
Play in a group without the pressure of performing alone
Discover the joy of making music with other people
Each session is different and can take inspiration from different musical styles, songs, and instruments.

From September 2026, Your Song – Free Flow Rhythms will alternate with TaikoLab single-sessions.

Everyone is welcome to join and experience the concept.
You do not need to commit to a full course. You can come and try a session, discover the music, and decide whether this type of group music-making is for you.
If the concept proves successful, the sessions may develop into a regular one-hour class from January 2027.
Your Song and Taiko Fusion
Your Song – Free Flow Rhythms offers a simple and accessible introduction to the creative approach behind Taiko Fusion.
In Your Song, you can explore playing with different instruments in a relaxed and playful format.
In Taiko Fusion, amateur musicians take this idea further by working together over several sessions to develop musical pieces as an ensemble.
You do not need to participate in both.
They are two different experiences, but they share the same idea:
Music becomes more exciting when we listen, play, and create together.
Taiko Fusion
Taiko Fusion is a creative music project for amateur musicians who want to experience what it is like to learn and develop a musical piece together as an ensemble.
The project explores how different instruments and musical backgrounds can come together to create something new.
The music may include taiko, voice, and other instruments. Depending on the project, a piece may combine several instruments, or it may focus primarily on taiko. The goal is not to follow a fixed formula, but to explore the possibilities of making music together.
This autumn, the project will include a collaboration with a Japanese singer. Together, we will work on the creation and preparation of a musical piece that may be used for a performance.
The focus is not only on the final result. The learning journey itself is an important part of the project.
Participants will experience how a musical piece develops from the first ideas through musical arrangements, rehearsals, ensemble playing, and eventually, potentially, a performance.
What we will explore
Depending on the project and the instruments involved, we may work on:
Learning and developing a musical piece together
Musical arrangements
Combining different instruments and musical traditions
Ensemble playing and musical interaction
Listening and responding to other musicians
Creating musical dynamics and structure
Choreography and movement
Preparing for a performance
The aim is to create a space where amateur musicians can learn from one another and experience the joy of building something together.
You do not need to be a professional musician. The most important requirements are curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to listen, learn, and collaborate with others.

Who can join?
Taiko Fusion is open to amateur musicians who are interested in learning how to play and create music as part of an ensemble.
Participants may have experience with different instruments, musical traditions, or styles.
The project is open to musicians who would like to explore the process of learning a piece together and discover how different musical voices can connect.
Because this autumn’s project is still in an experimental development phase, registration and participation will be discussed individually with the teacher.
This allows us to understand your musical background, interests, and expectations and to create a group that can work well together.
If you would like to play taiko in this group
If you would like to participate as a taiko player, it is highly recommended that you also join a TaikoLab course.
TaikoLab provides the opportunity to develop the technical foundation needed to participate confidently in an ensemble project.
Participants who already have taiko experience may discuss their participation directly with the teacher.
Group Size
Each Taiko Fusion group is limited to 6 participants.
This allows the group to develop a strong musical connection and gives everyone the opportunity to contribute actively to the creative process.
If there is sufficient interest, a second group may be created.
Performance Opportunities
The music developed during Taiko Fusion may become part of a Battiti performance.
Performing is not compulsory. The main focus of the project is the creative and learning journey of developing music together.
However, participants who enjoy performing may have the opportunity to continue working on the piece towards a live performance.
If you are interested in joining Shin-On, Battiti’s performing group, you can discuss this directly with the teacher.
When you feel ready, and once the repertoire and performance requirements have been discussed, you may be invited to join the Shin-On rehearsal group for specific performances.
Taiko Fusion is an opportunity to discover what happens when individual musicians come together, listen to one another, and create something that could not exist through the work of one musician alone.
Performance Opportunities: From learning to performing
Both TaikoLab and Taiko Fusion include working on musical pieces that may become part of Battiti’s live performances.
Performing is not compulsory.
You can join TaikoLab simply because you enjoy learning taiko, playing music, and being part of a group.
However, if you would like to take your musical journey one step further, there may be opportunities to perform the pieces you are learning in class.
If you are interested in becoming part of Shin-On, Battiti’s performing group, you can talk to me directly.
When you feel ready, and once the repertoire and performance requirements have been discussed, you may be invited to join the Shin-On rehearsal group and prepare for upcoming performances.
Whether your goal is simply to enjoy learning taiko, explore creativity with other musicians, or perform on stage, there is a place for you within the Battiti community.
